Splinters

splintersShe had somehow managed, to squeeze the entire contents of the universe into a four-inch box, and to finish it off with silver ribbon and a handmade bow of mesh and wire. It was, in fact, during this very process, that she became aware of the certain drawbacks pertaining to the packaging up of the sky, such as, the splintering of stars and the staining properties of midnight. In between the bandages that had been put in place to cover up the splinter-holes, the indigo-black skin peered through in an attempt to exhibit her punishment for keeping heaven in a cage. (No matter how well dressed the cage may be, I suppose the heavens want their freedom). She didn’t mind so much, given that, her hands were mostly useless, as she had never taken to the labors of everyday life, and was much happier having these things done for her anyway. All in all, it seemed a worthy sacrifice for boasting such a magnificent prize. Not just anyone could steal the cosmos. Though it seems, somehow she managed.
