Kansas

Driving in a gray car across the plains of Kansas

Our silhouette
Flickered between stalks of corn and
Fields of wheat.
The sun was orange
And faithful
As it followed us across
Inches
Miles
States

The red roads of
Sunset
Glittered to black
As the night crept in with
Quiet feet
And whispers
Our minds bent,
And twisted
Into designs
That only we could
Understand
Or pick apart.

Your eyes were blue and flowered
Blossoming
Inside the voyage
Of two well-dressed minds
And
A pair hearts fused together
In a love a story
Which wrote itself
Across a highway
And nestled up inside the womb
Of a luckless whimsy.

You and me
In gray car
And our son
As a souvenir
Of an endless journey

Between us.
