Religious precepts and ethical theories are founded on a simple principle: everyone is entitled to equality, dignity, respect, and compassion regardless of social status, mental capabilities, race, religion, gender, or occupation.
If one is committed to moral behavior, this behavior should extend from trees to animals to people. It should extend from one generation to the next. Hypocrisy has no place in this commitment as it undermines the general and fundamental principles of ethical behavior, in and of itself. One can not be ethically minded regarding the environment and refuse to apply this theory to the people with whom they share their lives and their community. It doesn’t work that way. Ethics aren’t meant to be a convenience, or a selling tactic, or a method of self segregation from the general population in attempt to place greater importance on oneself than one deserves. So while you talk about your “values”, I must inquire as to which set of values you refer. Obviously it is the set of which you pull out from your pockets in an effort to impress the upper crust ranks of society to which none of us, who support you, belong.
General ethical foundation calls for consistency, impartiality, and openness; meaning that moral actions are binding at all times, towards all people, and one is willing to admit that his or her own behavior may be morally corrupt (and is willing to change views or positions). I see none of this in you.
There is an elemental problem with your behavior in that you have fooled yourself into believing you are decent, moral people. Self deception disguised as enlightenment is so very confusing to those of us who know and recognize the difference. Not everyone is as mindless as you may believe. And had you followed the true ethical doctrine of honorable behavior, I wouldn’t need to point that out.
